Why is it that when Tom comes back into the picture, that he and Huck almost entirely resort back to how they were at the beginning of the book? they seem almost careless in the fact that they need to come up with an elaborate plan to break Jim out of prison. It wouldn't be such big deal if the plan still had a chance at working well. But this plan was almost entirely overcomplicated and foolish. And in the end doomed to fail.
One huge takeaway I had is how childish Tom and Huck really are. I'm going to focus on Tom though. Tom is ridiculously idiotic! He was almost upset that the they were helping Jim escape was too easy. Then he wanted to make it more difficult by adding a lot to it from things he read in books. And then to top it off, criticized Huck for taking a watermelon and insisting he pay them a dime for compensation. This shows an inconsistent variation between How Tom thinks sometimes.
The only thing I didn't like was How Tom was acting while they were getting Jim. It really irritated me that he would purposely want to make the challenges harder and then scald Huck for taking a watermelon. This is one of the only parts in the story that I really didn't like. Overall, I think Tom needs to grow up and start living in the real world.
